YouTube today announced an expansion of its anti-harassment policy that will ban video creators from insulting one another on the basis of their race, gender expression, or sexual orientation — even if the person they are insulting is a popular creator, celebrity, politician, or other public figure. 

On Sunday, YouTube announced a series of policy and product changes that update how they tackle harassment on YouTube. Youtube does systematically review all our policies to make sure the line between what we remove and what YouTube allow’s is drawn in the right place, and this was recognized earlier this year.

YouTube states that Content that features prolonged name calling or malicious insults (such as racial slurs) based on their intrinsic attributes. These attributes include their protected group status, physical attributes, or their status as a survivor of sexual assault, domestic abuse, child abuse, YouTube classifies this as Harrassment, and if any content is found on the platform regarding this, YouTube will take action faster then ever.

With regards to this, YouTube does allow some exceptions to this Harrassment policy, this includes any videos that are debates related to high-profile officials or leaders, also includes scripted videos, and satire content, this also Includes the education and awareness of harrassment.

But remember, context is the key here.

What happens if a creator violates this policy?

• If a creators content violates this policy, YouTube will remove the content and YouTube will send you an email to let you know
• this is your first time violating YouTube’s xommunity Guidelines, you’ll get a warning with no penalty to your channel.
• If that’s not the case, YouTube will issue a strike against your channel. If you get 3 strikes, your channel will be terminated
