How To Transfer content from Google Play Music To YouTube Music

Google recently announced that Google Play Music will shut down by the end of this year and in case you are a regular user of the app, then better now than never to safely transfer your music library to YouTube Music. I remember back in the GPM days, listening to tracks and podcasts on GPM, but when YouTube Music came around…. it amazed me, so i made the switch..

At the end of 2020 it is time to say goodbye to Google Play Music, which will be replaced by YouTube Music, Google now lets users transfer their content from GPM to YT Music, (One thing that i’ve wanted for ages)

How to do it?…

STEP 1 Open YouTube Music. Visit music.youtube.com/transfer and click on Transfer or you can also open initiate transfer by tapping on your Profile picture > Settings > Transfer > Transfer from Google Play Music.

STEP 2: Tap on Let’s Go

You will now have all your Google Play Music songs, albums, playlists, purchases, uploads, your personalised taste profile, recommendations, your liked and disliked songs displayed on the screen

STEP 3: Tap on Start Transfer to begin the process

The transfer could take some minutes depending on the size of your library and the number of people currently availing the service. Once completed, you will receive a confirmation notification on your app and via email.

It may take some time for you to have access to the tool, at YT is slowly rolling it out:

Note from Team Youtube: If you’re wondering when this transfer tool will be made available to you: We’re slowly rolling this out to everyone over the next couple of weeks. If you do not have access yet, you will soon and we will notify you via email and in the app when it’s available to you! However, you can also request for “early access” by following these steps: https://support.google.com/youtubemusic/thread/46961288

You will get a notification once it’s “your turn” to transfer the content from GPM to YT Music.
