UPDATE: 7PM AEST 2/9/21
Instagram went down in several parts of the world due to unclear issues on Thursday. According to Down detector, the platform that keeps track of internet outages, the Instagram services went down at around 5:30pm AEST, while the reports about the outage peaked at around 6 pm AEST. Consumers were reporting they were not able to access Instagram. Facebook did not publicly acknowledge the issue, but Instagram’s parent company started to fix the issue nearly two hours after the issue first emerged, however there is ongoing issues with the graph spiking up and down.
The problem behind the outage is not clear because Facebook did not address the issue publicly. But the company seems to have begun fixing it because Down detector showed a steep fall in the number of outage reports at least 20 minutes since the time of updating this article. The maximum reports arrived at around 7pm pm with a peak of over 3,500 cases getting registered on Downdetector.

Instagram’s outage was widespread and affected several services on the platform. According to a few Instagram users, who took to Twitter and Downdetector’s forum to report problems, the feed was not getting refreshed, the DMs were not working, and profiles were making an error when someone was trying to access them. Initially, people thought there was some issue with their internet connection, but people began to report issues in no time. Some even tried deleting and reinstalling the Instagram app but nothing worked because the problem was probably server-side.
Original Story:
HUNDREDS OF frustrated Instagram fans have flooded social media to complain about problems with the social network this afternoon. According to complaints, users are unable to add new photos or videos to their Instagram Stories.
Hundreds of Instagram users have been left unable to login to the social network this morning. The outage seems to have impacted users on both the iPhone and Android app, with some Instagram fans left unable to scroll through their feed, post new photos or albums, watch Reels, and more. However, the vast majority of complaints seem to be centred on Instagram Stories – ephemeral slideshows of photos and videos that are only available for 24-hours.

Users who try to post new images or videos to their Instagram Story receive an error message that reads: “Something went wrong, please try again later”

Instagram has yet to comment on the reported outage. The Facebook-owned service has not listed the outage under the Known Issues tab on Help pages. This is where Instagram usually lists problems with its service that will impact a huge number of people.
As it stands, Instagram only lists a problem with deleted comments still appearing beneath posts on the social network. It confirms: “If you keep getting an error message that a comment can’t be deleted, it may be because the comment was already deleted in our system. The comment may still appear because you’re viewing an old version of the page. We’re aware of this issue and are working on a fix.”
