Why You Should Never Put All Your Eggs in One Basket – My Google Account Disabled and YouTube Channel Saga

Account Flagged and Disabled

On 4 March 2026, my main Google Account was flagged with an access restriction for “Child Safety” policy violation This appears to be a false positive, triggered by automated systems misinterpreting my content. The account was fully disabled on 6 March, immediately cutting off access to my YouTube channel, Google Drive, emails, and paid services like Google One.

Background

This Google account was created (I think) around the start of 2015. No policy violations (other then occasional community guidelines strike on youtube which was appealed and i won) however i have never breached ToS of google within 10 years, still to this day. My account (personal account is mainly for my sport recordings, my client files for their website design, contract and creative works. There is litterally nothing against google ToS on this account, this is clearly the negative side of AI.

Appeals and Limitations

I submitted two appeals on 6 and 8 March explaining that my account contains professional content, including filming for a sports analysis company, YouTube content creation as well as creative projects. I had confirmed there is no offending content on the account, as this is for my freelance works. Both appeals were rejected, and Google confirmed no further appeals would be considered. Attempts to resolve the issue through Google support were limited, showing how automated flags can lock out even legitimate users. While TeamYouTube on X (Twitter) gave general advice. This did not asssit much.

Google One Subscription Issue – No Help

I had a Google One subscription charge of $14.99 on 4 March, but because my main account was disabled, Google One was unable to process a refund nor help with the Recovery/appeals process I contacted support through my alternate account but they could only confirm the charge and could not restore access or issue a refund. which I am following up with my bank directly for next steps,

I feel for us paid Google One subscribers, there should be extra support there for when we need it, not just ” we can only assist with Google One”.

Impact on Business and YouTube Channel

My YouTube channel had nearly 2,000 subscribers and 500,000 views, featuring technical unboxings, lifestyle vlogs, and brand partnerships with FilmoraGo, Prism+, Streamlabs Talk Studio, Maono Global, and more. Losing access disrupted both creative work and professional obligations, including paid storage services. I’ve spent countless hours updating email addresses with companies due to the account being disabled.

Other Accounts Affected

My business email (kalabhelp@gmail.com) was flagged on 9 March, (mentioned “Access to most Google services has been restricted” though I regained access by acknowledging Google’s terms. This shows how automated systems can impact multiple accounts under the same name, even when there’s no inappropriate content or policy violations.

Lesson Learned

This situation is a reminder: never put all your eggs in one basket. Relying on a single platform or account for business-critical content is risky. Always back up your work, diversify platforms, and have contingency plans. After receiving the initial restricted message, i backed up as much from google drive as i can, and have processes in place if this ever happened again. I also backed up my Youtube videos of the years on an external hard drive (Have to find it)

i’m not the only one,

I have looked into this further and can see many reddit and Twitter/X threads about the same issue, people getting disabled for Child safety, spam etc. So on the bright side, I am not the only one who is having the issue, BUT, it shows Google (especially for paid subscribers) must have systems in place to speak to these review teams, not just get vauge answers.

Escalation

I had escalated to @TeamYoutube via X (formally Twitter) for further escalation, for the teams to take a look, you can see the full tweet thread below. They had DM’d me asking for a contact email for the team to reach out. This in theory is a good sign, that this is being again escalated internally.

Rest in Peace, Kalab Templeman YouTube Channel

After 10 incredible years, my channel is gone. (For now) The last decade was a wild ride, filled with creativity, experiments, and amazing community support. While this chapter has closed, I’ll continue creating and sharing wherever possible. If I have any update from the Twitter escalation i will put this within the live blog below.
